Club 533, cheap Inc. has awarded scholarships totaling $3,000.00 to selected 2013 graduates of Richmond Public Schools.

Applicants were judged on academic achievement, financial need and leadership based on the student’s extracurricular activities. Also, honors and awards, and involvement in the community through public service were judged.

“Book awards” of $500.00 each were given to Brittany Patterson, Thyisha Hicks and Zenobia Cardwell of Thomas Jefferson High School; Malakiya Abdussabur of John Marshall High School; and Sajada Taylor and Jaykeysha Venable of Armstrong High School. To receive the funds recipients must provide proof of acceptance at a four-year college or university and a class schedule.

Club 533, was incorporated in 1956 by seven men wanting to improve the social and civic welfare of the citizens of Richmond. The club is named for its first location, 533 North 2nd Street.

Over the years, the club has been used as a meeting place to develop strategies for social, political and economic gains that would benefit the Black community. The club has been and continues to be synonymous with men of distinction who are known all over the country for their high level of accomplishment, civic advocacy and legendary hospitality. Club 533 is regarded as one of the oldest and most prestigious private clubs in the city of Richmond.
