I have been searching high and low for my wooden cigar box of sewing tools. It has mysteriously disappeared and I am trying hard not to be upset. It had an array of outstanding colorful threads and sewing supplies that would take a year or more to acquire again. I enjoyed discovering this gem during one of my thrift store hunts and when I initially gazed upon it – an ordinary wood box among a cluttered shelf of figurines, cosmetics, candles and dishes – my curiosity begged me to open it! The contents were startling. This disguised treasure chest contained unsuspecting contents so beautifully assembled, it appeared like an ornate tapestry.
I am not the world’s best seamstress, and it’s no secret that now I need help threading a needle. I remember Grandmama Rita who would occasionally alter a garment. If I was visiting she’d say, “Here, thread this needle for me.” I’d say, “Grandmama, I’ve got 20/20 vision.” We would laugh and she’d caution me that it wouldn’t always be so easy for me to see. Little did I know that one day I too would be in the same predicament–needing help.
