All of the third-grade students in Richmond Public Schools were enrolled in Dominion’s Project Plant It! program this spring. With educational lesson plans, they learned how trees benefit the ecosystem and received a redbud tree seedling to plant in honor of Arbor Day on April 25. At Woodville Elementary, students participated in a tree-planting ceremony following an Arbor Day celebration with songs, poems, dances and cheers about trees. Pictured are third-grade students planting a tree with assistance from Jeff Geis (left), Supervisor-Forestry with Dominion, and Jo McElwain (center in red shirt) from the Arbor Day Foundation in Nebraska. McElwain was in Richmond as part of the Foundation’s longtime partnership with Project Plant It! For more information, visit www.projectplantit.com.
