Women are beginning to explore and accept their natural hair. Curly hair is truly a blessing in disguise. Even here in the Greater Richmond area, the natural hair phenomenon has taken the region by storm. Keenya Kelly, CEO of Return of the Curls and Keenya Kelly, LLC kicked off the first event natural hair expo and hair show in the area in 2012, and is back again this year to bring a bigger and better natural hair show.
“Natural hair is more than just hair,” comments Kelly. “We are empowering women to improve their physical health, self-esteem, and spirituality.”
Return of the Curls is an exposium to carry out the purpose of the Keenya Kelly organization by pooling together a variety of resources pertaining to self-esteem/empowerment, physical and mental health, and education, mainly focused on hair care for curly textures, regardless of race or nationality.
Return of the Curls will be returning to Richmond, Virginia Saturday, May 4 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Sunday, May 5, noon to 5 p.m. for the 2nd Annual Curls Gone Wild Natural Hair Expo and Hair Show. The “Curls Gone Wild Hair Show” will be held on Saturday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The expo and show will be held at the Richmond International Raceway located at 600 East Laburnum Avenue. Attendees will have the opportunity to attend workshops, exhibitions, engage with a natural hair professional panel, witness live on-stage demonstrations, all designed around curly hair of all curl types.

On Sunday, May 5, expo attendees will have the opportunity to attend the Curls Gone Wild hair and fashion show featuring local stylists, makeup artists, and more from Richmond. Showing off the variations and spunk of curly hair through naturally curly models, fashion designers, hair stylists and top notch make-up artists will come together to let the curls go crazy and wild. Drawing from vast local talent, models will showcase apparel from locally owned boutiques and stores, as well as up-and-coming local designers. The fashion show will be hosted by Natural Hair Does Care.
Return of the Curls is proud to be partnering with Kidz Can Come to provide a safe, adult-supervised daycare at the Richmond event. Each child is permitted admission for one hour for $5.00. The daycare will be available on Saturday and Sunday.
The Return of the Curls tour has added on additional locations this year. The tour will be traveling to Greensboro, North Carolina, July 13, and to Louisville, Kentucky later this fall.
“Return of the Curls is on its way to becoming a top tier hair show on the road, and with this expansion we are well on our way,” comments Kelly.
