Every week, there seems to be a new diet that’s supposed to help lose weight and keep it off. It might seem like a fairly new phenomenon, but The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics has traced fad diets all the way back to 1820.
It started with a vinegar and water diet and has gone through the beginnings of liquid diets and other bizarre practices, like sleeping to lose weight (popular in the 1970s).
Most fad diets aren’t based on any tried and true science, so it’s best to avoid the fad diets in this timeline.
If you are looking to find a new diet plan, consult a health professional.
