Girl Scouts from the Richmond area recently met with Mayor Dwight C. Jones to highlight how the Girl Scout Cookie® Program funds service projects. The meeting coincided with the anniversary of the founding of the first Girl Scout Troop on March 12, 1912. Despite the grip of a volatile global economy, Girl Scouting perseveres, as it has for nearly a century. The platform for the organization’s commitment to help others is the cookie program, a national tradition since 1936. Girl Scouting is the world’s premier financial literacy and entrepreneurial training ground for girls, and it affords them the opportunity to support their communities through service.
