The Top 10 Cities for African American Professionals series is back this week with city number nine. The list delivers information such as a crime rate, buy cialis employment opportunities, buy and institutions of higher education in a city. The purpose of this list is to provide people with an opportunity to receive an overview of the city without looking all over the internet.
Last week, tadalafil Indianapolis was in the spotlight. Urban Views Weekly looked into one of the nation’s most underrated cities and saw that it was a city rich in African American appeal. It has an African American district known as Indiana Avenue, which gives a glimpse into the lives of African Americans going back to the 1800s. This week, Urban Views Weekly looks at Columbus, Ohio, a city that is also rich in African American history and is enthusiastic about helping them to become more successful.

Columbus is a town with a decent population of African Americans. The historic King Lincoln District of the city is an African American district that is known for its jazz community as well as business. “The King-Lincoln District is an area rich in history and heritage, including jazz, folk art, the civil rights movement and world-class architecture,” the website states. It is home to both the Lincoln Theater and the King Arts Complex. The complete name of the complex is the Martin Luther King Jr. Performing and Cultural Arts Complex and represents the symbol of cultural and artistic heritage of African Americans and their experiences. It acts as more of an interactive museum that takes guests on the journey of the district as well as “building bridges of harmony among all people.”
The Lincoln Theater is an example of the district’s architectural wonders. It’s “a state-of-the-art performing arts complex designed to entertain, educate and engage the community.” The theater is used as a performance center, rehearsal station and office space. It also offers classes in the performing arts.

Ohio doesn’t have any HBCUs, but it does have the Ohio State University. The school, well known for its athletics, also has a variety of programs dedicated to minority services. For example, its Minority Engineering Program (MEP) is driven to help underrepresented ethnic minorities in the field of engineering. According to the website “the program works to expand the participation of underrepresented ethnic minorities in the College of Engineering and in the engineering profession.” OSU also offers its Leadership Initiatives for Women of Color. “Our mission is to foster the development of women of color as leaders in the classroom, on campus, and in their surrounding communities,” the OSU website states.

The top industries in Columbus are all about making life easier whether it’s through technological means, healthcare and overall well-being or even academic. In 2013, Columbus was the venue for the Black Enterprise Entrepreneurs Conference + Expo. This is an awards ceremony honoring the largest black-owned businesses in the nation. Census data states that as of 2007, 5.8 percent of businesses in Columbus are Black-owned firms. That means Black entrepreneurs wanting to make it in corporate Columbus have a good chance at succeeding.
Crime Rate (total per 1,000 people): 53.42
In a poll by the CQ Press in 2013, Columbus was ranked as the eighth most dangerous city in the U.S. with a population of 500,000 or more. Also in 2013, according to stats from neighborhoodscout.com, Columbus had 6,037 violent crimes and 36,004 property crimes. The Columbus Dispatch states that there have already been 10 homicides in 2014, the majority of them shootings and 81.8 percent of them involving African Americans. While Columbus has been ranked as a dangerous city, the Ohio Crime Prevention Association is available to make sure visitors and residents feel safe. The organization is, according to its website, “a diverse membership representing law enforcement agencies, government offices, businesses, the faith community and resident groups.”

Columbus is a very historic city for African Americans. The King-Lincoln district offers residents and visitors the opportunity to experience life through the eyes of Columbus African Americans and offers both education and entertainment centered around historic Black culture. Helping minorities to have a better chance in the workplace, Ohio State University offers programs dedicated to disadvantaged students such as its Minority Engineering program, which attempts to increase the number of minority faces in engineering. Columbus is also a friendly city for African American business, holding conferences and various services for Black entrepreneurs. Lastly, a team made up of different governing officials of the city protects its citizens with the Ohio Crime Prevention Association.
