VSU’s defense held the Broncos to 33% shooting and 18 turnovers. The Trojans displayed solid offense in the first half behind 14 points from their big man Kenny Mitchell. VSU shot 57% from the field and held Fayetteville State to 33%. VSU muscled their way in the paint with 19 points to four points by FSU. After a technical foul on the Broncos, Mike Bynum went to the free-throw line and nailed four free throws. The Trojans ended the first half on an 8-0 run, leading the Broncos 35-27.??The second half belonged to Trojans’ senior guard, Mike Bynum. Mike Bynum made six of nine shots from the field in the second half, exploding for 15 points. The Trojans lead jumped to 26 points in the second half behind great defense and Mike Bynum‘s hot shooting. The Trojans picked up their first CIAA conference win of the season defeating the Broncos 72-54.??Two Trojans hit double-digit scoring. Mike Bynum had 24 points and Kenny Mitchell had 18 points. slump against Fayetteville State University and lost 57-51 on Saturday, January 5th in Petersburg, VA.??VSU dominated the first half of play outscoring the Lady Broncos in the paint, 14-8. Lamesha Deal led VSU with 11 points in the first half, including five made free-throws. Deal’s front court teammate, Alexandria Massado, grabbed six rebounds in the first half while the Trojans defense held the Lady Broncos to 32% shooting from the field. VSU’s Pryncess Tate Dublin led the Trojans’ bench scoring, knocking down a pair of three-pointers. The Trojans went into the half leading the visiting Lady Broncos 29-20.??The Trojans held onto a small lead for the first 14 minutes of the second half. Lamesha Deal continued her scoring with ten points and eight rebounds. Defensive pressure by the Lady Broncos forced VSU into 11 turnovers in the second half. VSU’s offense failed to produce in the final seven minutes of the game. FSU kept within distance of the Trojans and came from behind and took the lead (44-45) with 6:40 left in the game. VSU’s Yashica Blakney answered back by hitting one of her three shots from three-point land putting the Trojans back ahead, 47-45.??In a close game, when the score was tied seven times and the lead changed eleven, the Lady Broncos were the team to stay strong and rally back. FSU hit the paint in the second half scoring 12 points to VSU’s four points. Second half turnovers led to 14 points for the Fayetteville State offense. The Lady Broncos went on a 12-4 run and closed out the Trojans at home, 57-51.??Lamesha Deal led the Trojans with a game-high 21 points with 12 rebounds. Alexandria Massado pitched in with a career-high 10 rebounds and Jasmine Stewart dished out eight assists and recorded four steals. Yashica Blakney and Pryncess Tate-Dublin led a Trojans’ bench combining for 17 points, but VSU was outscored 37-22 in the second half.
