The fabulous Trojans’ basketball teams of Virginia State University witnessed the official ribbon cutting ceremony for a new train service that will link Norfolk to the Tri-Cities, Richmond, Washington DC, and the Northeast on Tuesday, December 11th at the Amtrak station in Ettrick, VA.
This will be the first time in more than three decades that a train will service the Norfolk area to the Tri-City areas. Many Trojans live in the Norfolk (Tidewater) area and this new service can create a more affordable transit option for our student-athletes and students of Virginia State University.
The service between Norfolk and points northeast officially began on December 12th. Please contact Amtrak for schedules and cost.
Trojans Women’s Hoops Partners with VSU Federal Credit Union
Virginia State University Women’s basketball program partnered up with Virginia State University Federal Credit Union & Petersburg Social Services’ Angel Tree Program. The program allows members of the community to stop by VSU Federal Credit Union and select an Angel tag from the tree. Each tag is made for a boy or girl and has their names, sizes, and a suggested gift on it.
Virginia State University Women’s basketball program will be sponsoring three Angels from the Angel Tree by providing the children with gifts from their wish list such as toys, bikes, shoes, clothes, headphones, board games, etc. ”We wanted to step away from basketball and think about the less fortunate,” states VSU Head Women’s Basketball Coach James Hill, Jr. This will give us the opportunity to give back and bring a smile upon three kids this Christmas Holiday. The Trojans women’s basketball coaching staff delivered the gifts to the VSU Federal Credit Union on December 13th.
VSU Women’s Basketball Team Volunteers at Fort Lee Military Base
The Trojans of Virginia State University Women’s Basketball team participated at a Holiday Helpers Event on the Fort Lee Military Base in Petersburg, VA on Wednesday, December 12th. VSU Women’s Basketball team brought smiles and helping hands to the families of the Fort Lee soldiers and children during the holiday season. The student-athletes and coaching staff helped separate toys for the families, stock the toys, and also help giftwrap the toys to ensure a happy and merry holiday season.
