Several books that I have read during the year 2008 opened my eyes to new knowledge made me laugh, cry, and at times gave me Aha! moments. I applaud the authors for their great work. I’m looking forward to reading new authors and their creative works, as well as some of the more familiar titles during the New Year and being able to share them with you. It is important that we continue to read good books, some new and some old.
As the New Year is approaching, have you thought about discovering books that are under the radar, such as those by self-published or lesser known authors? Why not create a gift basket of books that contain some of your favorites? Here are a few suggestions that are currently in my basket. Happy reading!
Year’s Review of Favorites
From Mourning to Morning: Putting on the Garment of Praise (Xulon Press, $9.99) Author Angela R. Curtis shared her journey from mourning the loss of her son to being able to praise Christ the Son. This was one of my favorites and it helped me through my low moments.
Destiny’s Testimonies: A Poetry Compilation (Morris Publishing, $9.99) is an inspirational book of poetry documenting a period of author Diane Davis’ spiritual growth. This book is very uplifting and a wonderful way to breathe life of encouragement to every woman, man and child.
Troubles Won’t Last Always (Urban Christian, $14.95) is a great exemplification of beauty and strength as the unique searches for love bonds four women together. Author Michelle Caple Taylor has become one of my favorite authors. Her first novel shows her talents of writing with a message.
This Far by Faith (Kimani Press $ 14.95) is a book of powerful stories of mothers, daughters, faith, and forgiveness. This was written by three very talented and gifted authors who some of you may already know, Stacy Hawkins Adams, Kendra Norman-Bellamy and Linda Hudson-Smith. As scandalous secrets and old lies are brought to light, each woman must learn about redeeming faith, the power of forgiveness, and a love whose strength and endurance is second only to God’s own.
